Class Name: Adaptive Yoga
Class Type: Adaptive Yoga
Description: Adaptive Yoga is designed to help people of all ages with special needs lead healthier, happier, and more productive lives. Yoga is good for the physical body and the mind, providing health, beauty, mental control, and emotional stability. Students will be taught a simple and clear style of yoga incorporating music, breath work, eye exercises, physical postures, and deep relaxation. Through a combination of love, connection, patience, trust and fearless careful work, students will be guided toward developing to their full potential.

Class Name: Chair Yoga
Class Type: Chair Yoga
Description: Chair Yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses utilizing a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Many of the basic body mechanics of the yoga asanas are retained to enable students to do versions of twists, stretches, forward bends and backbends, inversions & balancing poses. Benefits Include: Increased Flexibility, Firmed Muscle Tone, Improved Balance, Efficient Breathing Habits, Reduced Stress, Better Sleep, and an Overall Sense of Well Being.

Class Name: Gentle
Class Type: Hatha
Description: A slow paced class for those who wish to build a new practice or perfect their current practice. This is a great beginner class and also very good for those with past or present medical concerns, injury or illness. Gentle Yoga is a way to open the body through passive stretching in relaxing postures. Class consists of fewer postures held for an extended period and incorporates the use of props such as blocks, bolsters and straps. This practice is ideal for those seeking deep relaxation, slower pacing or for those new to yoga.

Class Name: Guided Meditation
Class Type: Meditation
Description: Meditation is the exercise of engaging in contemplation or reflection for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of awareness. Meditation creates inner calm and teaches the student to become more observant and less reactive to the inevitable flow of change in life. As we teach the brain to become more present, meditation opens the doors for insight, introspection, and better understanding of the authentic self. This practice is guided and offered on a donation basis. All funds collected during these sessions will be donated to a local Loudoun charity (TBD on a quarterly basis).

Class Name: Hatha
Class Type: Hatha
Description: Hatha Yoga is a set of postures (known as asanas) and sequences of asanas, designed to bring the whole body into alignment. The postures are sequenced to open many channels in the body, especially the spine to allow energy to flow freely. Hatha is translated as “ha” meaning “sun” and “tha” meaning “moon”. The practice is focused on bringing about the balance of masculine aspects – active, hot, sun – and feminine aspects – receptive, cool, moon – within all of us. Hatha Yoga creates balance and unites opposites in our physical bodies so we develop both strength and flexibility. Hatha Yoga teaches the student to balance effort and surrender in each pose. Hatha Yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. By bringing attention to the breath, which helps to still the fluctuations of the mind, Hatha Yoga cultivates presence in each movement.

Class Name: Restorative
Class Type: Yin
Description: Restorative Yoga is the method of bringing the body into comfort within Yin yoga postures. Like Yin, Restorative can be a complementary practice to active and heating “yang” forms of yoga. Just like Yin yoga, Restorative yoga practice observes Yin postures with much longer, meditative holds in postures. Restorative is a great way to bring balance to the mind, body connection and like Yin Yoga, for seeking deep relaxation and stillness both physically and mentally.

Class Name: Vinyasa
Class Type: Vinyasa
Description: Vinyasa Yoga is a branch of Hatha Yoga. The term vinyasa refers to the alignment of movement and breath, a method which turns static asanas into a dynamic flow. The length of one inhale or one exhale dictates the length of time spent transitioning between asanas. Asanas are then held for a predefined number of breaths. In effect, attention is placed on the breath and the journey between the asanas rather than solely on achieving perfect body alignment in an asana, as is emphasized in Hatha Yoga. The term vinyasa also refers to a specific series of movements that are frequently done between each asana in a series.

Class Type: Yin
Description: Yin yoga is the counterpart to the active and heating “yang” forms of yoga. Meant to stretch and stimulate ligaments and connective tissues and realign the skeletal structure, yin classes are typically comprised of longer, meditative holds in postures. Yin is a great balancing practice for those who lead very active lives, practice other active styles of yoga, and those seeking stillness within.

Class Type: Yin/Hatha
Description: Yin/Yang yoga practice is a blend of both the Yin (lunar) and Yang (solar) elements of yoga. This practice is taught at a much slower pace compared to the Vinyasa and Ashtanga practices. Yin/Yang practice is suitable for those looking for elements of deep stretches and periods of flow. Yin/Yang develops a deeper awareness of the body and balances the dynamics between developing strength and mindful attention on the breath.

Description: New to Yoga? Yoga Basics prepares students with a foundation of postures, breath, and alignment to increase flexibility, strength, and balance. Students receive individualized attention as an integral part of the journey in Yoga and get prepared to adventure into the many other offerings at Loudoun Valley Yoga.

Class Name: Yoga Essentials
Class Type: Yoga Essentials
Description: Yoga Essentials will be an opportunity for students to come in once each month for “open” practice and to receive individual attention on any aspects of their asana practice with LVY teacher(s). The class structure will be completely open and will not be led/guided as a whole. At least one teacher will be available during the session to provide assistance/guidance as needed. These sessions are included as an added benefit in the “unlimited packages”. Students may also use a session from a class package or pay a drop-in fee. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Description: Yoga for Men is a class tailored to make yoga more accessible to the unique needs of men by getting tight muscles to lengthen without gripping, encouraging large muscle groups to move fluidly and freely, coaxing muscles to move and work together and learning to use strength in a balanced and integrated way. Basic yogic principles will be applied to achieve benefits, such as: — strengthened core — toned muscles — reduced stress — balanced body and mind.
